Close Combat was started by Lliam (the kiwi) and Pieter (the notorious Maastricht skinhead). They asked Maurice Persoon (ex-Hardsell) to play second guitar for them. Merijn (Banner Of Thugs) picked up the bass and Roger (also ex-Hardsell) played drums. The band’s intention was to go back to the roots of oi! and play music in the vein of The Cockney Rejects, Close Shave and the 4Skins. They recorded five songs in the Brand X studio’s with help of Kevin from Zoeper. Four songs are in Maastricht dialect and one song (Iron City Patriots) in English. The lyrics deal with Maastricht history, Maastricht and the Maastricht football team: MVV. The cd will be called “Viva Mestreech!”. They are plannning to hit the studio again for a full length cd in with mainly English songs as soon as possible. Anything else you might want to know? Yes: Close Combat consists of five bald headed, heavily tattood, heavy drinking, chain smoking scumbags who don’t give a fuck about anyone or anything that stands in their way.
